The wait is over, Assetto Corsa Competizione is now available on Steam!
Kunos Simulazioni have been working on Assetto Corsa Competizione for quite some time. The game has been in early access for over eight months, with players who pre-ordered the title gaining access to a beta that showed a lot of promise. Now, version 1.0 of Assetto Corsa Competizione is finally available, marking the full release of the game.
Assetto Corsa Competizione is the official game of the Blancpain GT Series. The title features all of the cars, teams, and tracks from the 2018 Blancpain GT Series season. It has been well documented that Assetto Corsa Competizione looks incredibly well. Thanks to the games use of Unreal Engine 4, environments and vehicles really have an authentic look to them. Combine this with dynamic time and weather, and have all of those features play out on extremely detailed laser-scanned tracks, and you have the release build of Assetto Corsa Competizione. Sound design is full of depth in the game as well, rivaling other excellent sounding racing simulators such as rFactor 2 or RaceRoom Racing Experience. At launch, Assetto Corsa Competizione features a Championship mode which simulates a full Blancpain GT Series season and a Career mode that strings multiple seasons together through one driver's perspective. The game also comes with a penalty system baked in at launch, although sadly a matchmaking system is currently absent.
Assetto Corsa Competizione does have a few shortcomings that a majority of the community seems keen to point out. Many seem to take issue with Unreal Engine 4, claiming that it isn't built for racing simulators such as Assetto Corsa Competizione and that this shows in gameplay. Other issues revolve around the AI drivers, penalty system, damage model, and the aforementioned lack of a proper matchmaking system. Hopefully, these issues will sort themselves out as Assetto Corsa Competizione continues on the market.
